Time to go vegetarian?

I have never really considered going vegetarian in my life. I know plenty of folks who have, even a fair share of vegans, but I really believe that we humans are meant to eat meat. (Especially those of us with particularly carniverous ancestors) But a recent study, brought to my attention by the always inspiring Thom Hartman of Air America Radio, has me rethinking my lifestyle like never before.

"A KILOGRAM of beef causes more greenhouse-gas and other pollution than driving for three hours while leaving all the lights on back home, according to a Japanese study."

This isn't a study done by the National Tofu Consortium printed on the bleach-free hemp-fiber pages of Hippie Cuisine Weekly or The Vegan Journal of Moral Superiority. It comes from the pages of the Animal Science Journal which appears to be no champion for environmentalism but a periodical on livestock economics.

I'm not stranger to the reasons behind eating less beef. Weather folks choose to go vegan/vegatarian out of concerns for animal cruelty, health, or the environment, I've heard it all before. I know I eat a good deal less beef than I did even three years ago (also thanks to my health-conscious wife) but now, after having the energy issue spelled out for me in black-and-white...

Very Big Numbers!

(I found this info on my buddy's website at http://orygundreamin.blogspot.com.)

In a world where "million" has become so less impressive a number, it can be hard to wrap your head around what big numbers look like. When you see what two million plastic bottles, thirty thousand handguns, or 2.3 million prison uniforms really look like, it really hits home!

Here are some helpful images from their main website.

Another great wedding... another great couple.

Kristen and Danny were married on the banks of Emigrant Lake near Ashland Oregon just a few weeks back. We took advantage of the venue and spent an evening on the town dining with the Vellas and some other old friends from our days working at Omar's several years back. What a treat!
